The information technology company CA Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:CA) announced its Q2 financial results for the fiscal year 2011. Although they did not look so bad, the stock dropped down by $0.03 and settled at the price of $21.76 per share. Let’s look at the entire situation of the CA Techs, but keep in mind that the full Q2 report isn’t ready yet.

According to the draft version of the Q2 report, the company’s revenues increased by 4%, from $1.067 million in 2010 to $1.110 million in 2011. In the meantime, earnings per share popped up from $0.41 to $0.43 (a rise of 5%).[BANNER]

As good as it sounds, the stock price has started to struggle and fight for a better position under the sun. Within a month and a half, the stock was able to mount by 22%, from around $18 per share to $22. Will it go further, as the highest price it was able to get in the year 2010 was $23.91?

All in all, the design, development, marketing, licensing and support of information technologies will continue to attract investors together with users of the products. However, the better known companies look more reliable to them. Let’s see what happens with CA Technologies in some time.

Yesterday, Cornerstone Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRTX) stock turned 6.79% back, on exceeding the average for the company trading volume.

This was the first significant pullback of CRTX shares for this month. After the hot news, the time for a price correction has come.

Since the beginning of the month, CRTX stock has been climbing up with sweeping steps.

Last Tuesday, CRTX licensed to Targacept, Inc. the worldwide rights to develop and commercialize the products, targeting the alpha-7 receptor. The technology used, was originally licensed to CRTX by the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research.

According to the agreement, CRTX will receive an upfront payment of $1.5 million and is eligible for success-based milestone payments of up to $74.9 million, depending on which of the two specified lead compounds Targacept makes progress on. The company will also receive single digit royalties on any future net sales of the products based on the licensed technology.

The above announcement opened the door for CRTX stock rush, which got on the list of the stocks with the highest percentage increases.

Two days after these positive events, CRTX released its financial results for the second quarter of this year.

The company reported 14% higher net revenues as compared to the three months ended June 30, 2009, whereby the percentage of revenues derived from strategic specialty products increased from 20% to 64%.

The most significant improvement is in the company’s cash balance. CRTX presented a $27.6 million increase in the cash and cash equivalents during the first six months of the year, or 146% up from $18.8 million to $46.4 million. The progress in the operations also finally confirmed a possible further upward direction for CRTX stock.

Though, a more profound reading of the company’s financials shows that for the six months ended this year, CRTX’s net income per diluted share decreased to $0.18 from $0.60 per share last year. That seems to have cooled down the initial investor enthusiasm.[BANNER]

The company also reported $10.8 million of deferred revenue. The amount relates to CRTX sales, for which the future returns could not be reasonably estimated at the time of the sale.

Since the date of above mentioned firsts announcement, CRTX stock surged 14%. Yesterday, the disclosure of a CRTX stock promotion, for which the promoter announced to have received 2,000 shares of CRTX at an average price of $6.23, reminded that the time for a price correction has come. CRTX stock closed the session at $6.45 per share, which was far away from the previous day high at $6.99. Investors remained unwilling to overcome the psychological limit of $7 for CRTX stock.

The company said their GVAX chronic myeloid leukemia vaccine works, as it was supposed to, per their announcement that exited the market on March 11. Earlier in the month they had also collected $18 million by selling stock to two institutional investors.

Of all the products in Biosante’s pipeline the top one is a marketed menopausal symptom reducing gel under phase 3 trials. It is the product that most of this recent funding will be directed toward. According to the company’s CEO, Stephen M. Simes, LibiGel have the chances of becoming the first FDA approved product for treating menopause caused sexual disorder.

They have the funds and the nearly finished trials expectations are high as well. The new drug application, though, won’t be submitted till mid 2011 and it still has chances of failing no matter how much is invested in the research.[BANNER]

For research phase pharmaceutical companies, stock price valuation is hardly comparable to their financials. Biosante’s marketed Elestrin is bringing in around $100 thousand in quarterly revenues. And the company is losing around $4 million to research and administrative expenses every three months.

The stock price movement related to promotions and capital raise is often short lived if there is no improvement in fundamentals. This is the case where improvement isn’t even expected – all they want to achieve is to see LibiGel on the market.

Other products, like the leukemia vaccine, look promising as well, but with all the potentially upcoming fame, it’s still unclear where the stock should be standing right now.

Reaction on the stock market on Friday was however ambiguous as the company also announced worse than expected financials. $0.03 per share loss under $6 million revenue was far behind $0.00 and $19.4 in estimates.

Management signified expectations of increased freezer revenues in the coming quarters as the products are newly presented to the market. Further, increasing AXP sales a viable as GE Healthcare is looking to build up inventories due to increased demand. ThermoGenesis plans to achieve profitability in second or third fiscal quarter of 2010.

With built in expectations the company has still failed to deliver for the most recent quarter and it’s unlikely their share price will provide extended appreciation under current circumstances. Taking Friday’s performance as a benchmark – trading volume was strong only for the first two hours into trading and we have witnessed profit taking afterwards as the price rumbled back down.

The purpose of such a technology is to enable scientist to quickly and efficiently manipulate the artificial human like diseases caused in rats and in turn test various drugs and methods for their treatment. Rats are used to create models for human disease studies because they are psychologically closer to humans than mice.

The technology will add to the vide variety of StemCells’ other products, and might even affect the company’s income statement for the better because of its fundamental usefulness and demand. Other products weren’t too successful in pushing the business forward.

Despite registering as a clinical stage biotechnology company, StemCells has to make a living with only modest revenues and most of their operating costs go to R&D. To force a positive cash flow the company is constantly issuing additional stock, which partially explains the low share price and illiquidity.

The pharmaceutical stocks are usually about the potential of the drugs they develop. In this case the SG1-R release to the market had no positive effect on the stock as all the effect was already counted in the stock valuation when it turned out to be a successful medium. We’ll just have to wait and see the actual financial performance of the SG1-R before it can make an impact on the equity market.

The stock has climbed on such a merry news announcement. After adding 300% and surviving the initial retracement the stock price travelled up mostly driven by investor’s expectations built within the new products.

It’s fair to say the stock is currently undervalued with 26 million outstanding shares it makes only 1.3 million in market cap for the company right now. Products are promising and so on but net losses, lack of cash and general leverage pushes the parent company out of the game here with their subsidiary possibly taking all the profit.

At a glimpse the products look promising but the real potential can hardly be evaluated only from what the Allied Security CEO says. The company other products are also popular in the market, but that doesn’t generate enough revenue for the parent company to book profit.
